In emergency situations, IV fluids are one of the most critically needed supplies. But filled IV bags are heavy and take up a lot of room. Nurse Rachel Walker and her team developed a portable, backpack style device that filters water to add to bags containing the components of IV solutions. This prototype device would make getting IV fluids to patients in low-resource and disaster situations easier. Walker, an assistant professor at UMass Amherst, joins Carrie Saldo to discuss her invention.
