Locally Grown Lettuce in Springfield Public School Lunches

Last year, Springfield Public Schools opened a $21 million-dollar Culinary and Nutrition Center. In addition to preparing fresh foods for over 30,000 students, the Center strengthened the city’s partnership with its food service provide, Sodexo. It also represented an opportunity to change the stereotype of the typical school lunch. Including locally grown lettuce is meals is just one of the ways SPS is making that change. Producer Dave Fraser heads to Little Leaf Farm in Devens, MA and the Springfield school to see how both parties benefit from the partnership.
