Kids as Currency: Historical Roots of Family Separation

Drawing on the adoption of Irish children by American couples in the 1940s and 1950s, and the 2018 U.S. policy of separating children from their parents at the Mexican border, two area professors began thinking about the historical roots of family separation. David Hernandez, Associate Professor of Latino Studies at Mount Holyoke College, and Moira Maguire, Dean of Social Sciences at Holyoke Community College, joined Carrie Saldo in the studio to shed light on the history of family separation.
