George Parks Drum Major Academy Celebrates Late Band Director’s Legacy

While on the road with the UMass Amherst Marching Band in September 2010, Director George Parks passed away from a heart attack. In addition to leading the “Power and Class of New England” since 1977, Parks also created a drum major academy in 1978. The George Parks Drum Major Academy still runs camps from coast to coast each summer. Connecting Point‘s Brian Sullivan dropped in on the camp at UMass Amherst earlier this month. While there, he saw how Mr. Parks’ legacy lives on through the camp and its students.
