You may not have heard of burn pits, but they are frequently used by the United States military to dispose of a range of items. Soldiers and others in proximity to the pits are exposed to the smoke and fumes, which may have health implications. State Rep. John Velis is an Army reservist who has been deployed twice in recent years. Velis recently proposed a law to automatically enroll Massachusetts service members exposed to burn pits into an existing registry where their health can be tracked. Rep. Velis joined Carrie Saldo in studio to discuss the proposed legislation and the impact it may have on veteran health.
