The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown is challenging the public to become curators. Carrie Saldo recently visited the Clark to learn about the UCurate program and the competition that could score you your very own exhibition at the Clark.
Authors Julie L. Sloan and William J. Patriquin discuss the former Berkshire Glassworks in Lanesborough, MA. It was the first company in the country to make stained cathedral glass. Carrie Saldo visits the site of the former factory, the Berkshire Museum, home to some of the pieces made by workers, and explores two of the churches in the region that house the glass today.

Stickwork Sculpture by Patrick Dougherty
In June 2012, the Springfield Museums commissioned artist Patrick Dougherty to create this remarkable Stickwork sculpture. Using saplings collected by museum staff and volunteers from managed forestry and wildlife areas inMassachusetts, Patrick and his volunteers carefully wove together this installation.

The James Kitchen Public Art Initiative currently consists of two exhibits in downtown Springfield with plans for new commissioned works which will incorporate recycled metals from Springfield neighborhoods and industry to depict Springfield’s history. We visit a show of 52 pieces at 1550 MAIN in Springfield and an outdoor walking tour of larger pieces placed in various locations in downtown Springfield. The Walking Tour will feature up to 18 large outdoor sculptures crafted with recycled metal installed throughout downtown Springfield.
