Springfield 9/11 Memorial Dedication with Brad Blakeman

The recently dedicated Springfield 9/11 Memorial honors the first responders killed on September 11, 2001. The theme of the Riverfront Park memorial is “Forever in Our Hearts” and it includes a 10-foot beam from the World Trade Center. The New York City skyscrapers were collapsed after two commercial airliners struck the north and south towers.

Former Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush, Brad Blakeman was in the White House on 9/11 and was the only senior White House staffer to lose a family member in the attacks. His nephew, Thomas Jurgen, an Army veteran and court officer, ran into the buildings to help with rescue efforts. Blakeman, who attended the Springfield 9/11 Memorial Dedication with Thomas’s brother Joey, shared his experience with Carolee McGrath.
