Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington and Northwest District Attorney David Sullivan are calling for the release of some inmates as a safety precaution during the coronavirus pandemic. Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi called this idea “ill advised.”
Cocchi said that inmates are in a controlled, safe environment and should remain there for their well-being. While Cocchi is not considering early release, he is other steps to protect inmates from COVID-19. Cocchi spoke with Carrie Saldo about the changes the county correction system made because of the novel coronavirus.
