Franklin County Jail Opioid Treatment Program Study

The opioid epidemic has devastated urban, suburban, and rural communities. Since 2015, the Franklin County Jail House of Correction has been providing treatment for inmates suffering from opioid addiction. The Franklin County Jail opioid treatment program has recently expanded to include a treatment facility for female inmates. The jail is now partnering with a UMass professor who will study opioid treatment as part of a $1.5 million-dollar federal grant. Carolee McGrath sat down with Franklin County Sheriff Christopher Donelan, UMass Researcher Elizabeth Evans, and jail Assistant Superintendent Ed Hayes to learn more about the program and study.
