Many members of the Springfield City Council want a more diverse workforce, especially when it comes to leadership roles. A Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) is responsible for hiring and retaining minority employees. The Springfield City Council believes hiring a CDO would help create a more diverse city workforce. Mayor Domenic Sarno vetoed the idea, saying that the city already has an equal opportunity administrator who focuses on hiring diversity.
City Council President Orlando Ramos is among the councilors who disagrees with the Chief Diversity Officer veto and plans to push for a diversity officer. He joined host Carrie Saldo to explain why the position would benefit the city.
