The State We’re In: Congressman Richard Neal on Spending Bill & Gun Control

As the nation debates the recently signed $1.3 trillion federal spending budget and the weekend’s March for Our Lives protests, Connecting Point‘s Carrie Saldo sits down with U.S. Congressman Richard Neal (D-MA) to discuss the impact of these events, the 2020 Census, and more on western New England. The 2,300-page spending package included funding for education and changes to gun control laws, but did not included protection for Dreamers, immigrants who came to the United States as children and were offered protection from deportation under DACA (Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals). Neal also discusses the change to the 2020 census, which for the first time in years will ask about a respondent’s citizenship status.
