Opposed to Marijuana Buffer Zones Around Easthampton Schools

Starting in July 2018, Massachusetts adults over the age of 21 will be able to buy recreational marijuana. Pot’s soon to be legal status is causing controversy in many towns and cities, where leaders are trying to figure out how best to roll out the budding industry in their area.    

The Easthampton City Council is considering enacting marijuana buffer zones around schools, which prohibit marijuana retail outlets from opening within 350 feet of a school. Easthampton School Committee Chair Cynthia Kwiecinski discusses the school committee’s opposition to buffer zone, which they feel is not large enough to adequately protect students.
