Holyoke Works and Holyoke Community College have partnered to facilitate a 15-week English as a Second Language Home Health Aide and CNA program for people whose primary language is not English. This program teaches the English language, as well as the skills necessary in caring for someone in need.
Many of the program participants were nurses and doctors in their home countries, but because of their language barriers and the different licensing requirements in the United States, they cannot continue their practice in medicine. ESOL Home Health Aide program allows non-native English health care professionals to relaunch their career at the entry level. Connecting Point producer Alejandro Cameron spoke with Ellen Chechile and Kermit Dunkelburg of Holyoke Community College to find out more about the program.
