American Kestrel Banding with Kestrel Land Trust | Web Exclusive

The American Kestrel is the smallest and one of the most common falcons in North America, but being small has its challenges. Kestrels are prey for larger raptors and the grass land habitats where they nest are often taken for building and housing developments. The Kestrel Nest Box Project is an effort to help boost their chances of adding to the next generation and this season’s box project was the most successful to date, with 27 chicks hatched and banded here in Western Mass. Producer Dave Fraser and videographer Mark Langevin went along on a recent banding trip and share this story.
